Parents of infants and toddlers. The AAPD recommends this first visit by age 1, or within 6 months of the first tooth erupting.
This "Happy Visit" is short and sweet. We count their teeth, let them sit in the chair, and provide you with actionable tips for cleaning your baby’s gums and teeth.
The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry recommends a child’s first dental visit by their first birthday, and for good reason. At Advanced Dental Care, we specialize in making this milestone a fun, positive, and pressure-free experience that sets the stage for a lifetime of healthy dental habits.
Our Toledo team is highly trained in child psychology and behavior management. We use a "knee-to-knee" exam technique and kid-friendly language to gently check your baby’s development without causing fear. More importantly, this visit empowers you as a parent with expert guidance on diet, teething, and at-home care, helping you prevent issues like "baby bottle tooth decay" before they even start.
1. Welcome & "Happy Visit" Tour
We start by welcoming you and your child, letting them explore the operatory and sit in the dental chair in a playful, stress-free environment.
2. Gentle Knee-to-Knee Exam
You and the doctor sit knee-to-knee. We gently lift your baby’s lip, count their teeth, check their jaw development, and look for any early signs of decay.
3. Quick Cleaning (If Tolerated)
Depending on your child’s comfort level and age, we may gently wipe their teeth with a soft polish to remove any early plaque buildup.
4. Parental Education & Home Care Tips
We sit down with you to discuss our findings, answer all your questions, and provide expert advice on brushing techniques, fluoride use, and dietary habits.
5. Sticker, Prize & High-Fives
We celebrate your child’s bravery! They get to pick out a fun prize or sticker, leaving the office with a big smile and a positive association with the dentist.
It’s normal! Our team is experienced in calming nervous kids. We go at their pace.
Yes, for the first few visits, we encourage parents to stay to provide comfort.
